Elvis Presley Autograph Collecting Advice
![]() |
If you're looking for an Elvis Presley autograph for your collection, you will need lots of luck and even more money. The FBI has estimated that up to 90 percent or even more of celebrity autographs are fake. Although many forgers have been brought to justice, there are still plenty of them out there. These forgers understand that a die-hard Elvis fan will pay most anything for what they believe is an authentic signature from their beloved hero. Does this mean that there are no real Elvis autographs in existence? Of course not. It means that the ones that do exist are few and far between.
You can expect to pay at least $1,000 for a real Elvis autograph. This is a low estimation and you may find that an autograph from the man known as the King will cost much more than this. One reason why Elvis signatures are so valuable is because he is deceased. Another reason is because he is known as the man who brought the nation to a frenzy with a new style of music that had never been seen or heard before -- rock and roll.
Elvis Presley rose to fame in the 1950s with songs like Heartbreak Hotel and Hound Dog. His distinctive baritone voice, hip swiveling dance moves and handsome good looks made him a sensation with the teen set. Many parents and moral leaders were not so keen on Elvis, and thought of him as a threat to proper family values. In the late 1950's, Elvis was drafted and served in the US Army for two years. After his service, he gained the respect of many parents who once disapproved of him. Elvis went on to not only make music, but star in several movies as well. The life of this legend was not all wine and roses, however. Elvis suffered from many addictions and it is thought that his addictions led to his sudden death in 1977.
When searching for authentic Elvis autographs, it helps to know what to look for. For example, Elvis rarely signed his name on two lines, but rather in one straight line. There are variations in handwriting, so this alone is not a good indicator. The best course of action is to ask plenty of questions about the item and its history. A good seller will know where the item came from and when it was signed. Always make sure any Elvis Presley autograph comes with a lifetime guarantee and certificate of authenticity from a reputable agency such as PSA/DNA. If you do get lucky enough to find a real Elvis autograph, store it in a protective Mylar bag and keep in a secure location like a safe deposit box.
