How to Get Football Autographs
![]() |
Football autographs represent some of the most sought after signatures in the sporting world. There are three ways to get the football player autographs that you desire. You can try to get them directly from the player. Or, you can write to request them. You can also purchase the autograph you're looking for from another collector. In this article, we'll examine these three methods in more depth. First, check out the following tips for getting an autograph in person.
The first thing you'll need to have is a good pen and something for the football player to write on. The best pen for autographs is the legendary Sharpie. There are many surfaces you can have signed. A photo of the player, a magazine featuring the player, a collectible card featuring the player, or even a blank autograph book will work. Or, you could even ask the player to sign an item of clothing or piece of sporting equipment. Ok, so you've got the pen and the item waiting to be signed. Now you need to position yourself appropriately. A front row seat is an ideal location for getting autographs. Also, hanging around the player exit after the game can get you the signature you want.
When asking for an autograph, be polite and friendly. Make sure you know the name of the player you're talking to. If you call them by the wrong name, you're in for a world of embarrassment. You'll often find that you won't be the only fan waiting for an autograph. If you've tried your best and couldn't get the signature, try writing to the team or player fan club or representative. Make sure you follow proper etiquette when writing for autographs. This means enclosing a picture or card for the player to sign, a self addressed stamped envelope, and a short letter which lets the player know you are a fan and asks for an autograph in a polite way.
Perhaps you want to purchase an autograph from a collector. In this case, you'll want to familiarize yourself with how to tell authentic football autographs from fakes. Only deal with sellers that you're comfortable with. They should have plenty of experience buying and selling sports autographs. If you're purchasing an expensive collectible, have the collectible held in escrow while its authenticity is verified by a legitimate third party agency. A legitimate seller should have no objection to this, although you will likely need to pay for the verification out of your own pocket.
