Tips for Getting Music Autographs
![]() |
Do you have a favorite musician or band? Most people do. Music is a universal interest that we all share. Music autographs are some of the most sought after signatures, especially for fans and collectors. There are musicians like Elvis Presley and the Beatles, whose autographs sell for thousands of dollars because they're no longer being produced and are very rare. Unless you're ready to spend your life savings on a signature, you're better off seeking the autographs of some of today's musicians.
There are lots of bands and musicians who are more than happy to sign autographs for their fans. Then there are those who are more elusive. If you're interested in getting the autograph of your favorite musician, there are two basic ways to do so. The best way is to attend a concert and get your autograph there. If you can obtain a backstage pass, you've got the best chance of getting an autograph. Lesser known bands or bands playing at smaller venues may be able to be approached more easily.
When approaching a musician, you should have a quality writing instrument like a Sharpie, and something for them to sign. Posters, albums, CD covers and band T-shirts are all great items to have signed. Be polite, call them by name, and express your appreciation for their work. Rather than shoving the pen into their hand, ask nicely if they would mind signing an autograph for you. Many musicians really appreciate their fans and are happy to do so.
The other method of obtaining a musician's autograph is by writing for one. The problem with this is that musicians travel a great deal and often do not get all their fan mail. It doesn't hurt to try, however, because sometimes you will get a response. When writing to request an autograph, include a brief note that expresses your enjoyment of their work and politely asks for the signature. Include something for them to sign, like a photo or card, and self addressed stamped envelope.
Getting your music autographs via mail may take a long time, but for die-hard fans and serious collectors, it's worth the wait. Store your celebrity autographs in a Mylar sleeve, away from heat, light and moisture. A special fireproof box or metal file cabinet makes a great storage space for all your delicate collectibles.
